Chilli leaf curl virus symptoms and control measures

Chilli leaf curl virus: Belong to genus Begomo virus
  • Transmitted by insect vector white fly(Bemesia tabaci)
Symptoms:
  • The affected leaves curl upward towards midrib and give cup like appearance.
  • The affected plants shows dwarf growth due to shortened internode
  • The affected plants not set any fruits.
 



Control measures:
  • Medicines are not find for most of the viral diseases in plants
  • Uproot and burn the affected plants.
  • Crop rotation should be done. Don't plant chilli crop again and again in the same field (monoculture).
  • spreading of virus is controlled by controlling white flies since it spreads through white flies
  • White flies can be controlled by spraying Dimethoate or Acephate
  • Plant maize or sorghum plants around your chilli field .These plants will restrict white flies entering into your filed.
